Description
80-81 AD. Ephesus mint. Obv: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M legend with laureate bust right. Rev: tetrastyle temple of of Jupiter Optimus Maximus Capitolanus containing statues of the Capitoline Triad (Jupiter enthroned between standing Juno and Minverva) with CAPIT above and RESTIT in exergue. RIC -; BMC -; RSC -; CBN 111; Sear 2501. This type was struck after the fire which destroyed the third temple (dedicated by Vespasian) in 80 AD; the replacement fourth temple was completed and dedicated by Domitian in 82 AD, the year following his accession. [No Reserve]
