Description
18th-17th century BC. A finely carved haematite cylinder seal with three columns of cuneiform text; central scene of a god wearing horned tiara with one leg on a pedestal, holding a sceptre in his left hand; in front of him a standing worshipper followed by a servant holding a bucket and Lamma goddess; text transcribes and transliterates as follow: 1. Za-la-a-a / Zalaya 2. dumu d.Suen-na-se-er / son of Sin-nasir 3. warad d.I-sar-pa-dan/ servant of Isarpadan [A video of this lot is available on the TimeLine Auctions website] 19.97 grams, 27mm (1"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired in the late 1970s and 1980s.
