French Henri II Style Carved Oak Bookcase, 19th c., the scalloped highly carved crest above double arched glazed doors with relief decoration of a painter's palette and globe, flanked by fluted tapered columns, above a long drawer with a lion pull, on a stepped base, H.- 105 1/4 in., W.- 60 in., D.- 22 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Two 1 inch cracks in hog carving in crest. Several approximate 4 inch hairline cracks in crest. Several 4 inch cracks and woodfill on left side of crown. Right corner of base detached but present. Approximate 18 inch vertical crack in right column. Two 1 inch chips to carving on upper left. A 10 inch vertical hairline crack in left column. Several 3 inch cracks below. A 1 inch chip to carved palette. Three 3 inch vertical cracks in left door panel. Two 4 inch cracks in right panel. A 6 inch horizontal crack in upper left corner of left door. A 2 inch horizontal crack in upper left corner of right door. Left door sticks slightly. A striking piece.
