French 17th c. Louis XV Style Inlaid Walnut Bronze Mounted Cartouche Mantle Clock, 19th c., the time and strike works marked Planchon, Palais Royal, the arched top with a bronze ball finial, above a copper plate with a bronze relief mask over an engraved steel dial with Roman numerals, with key, running. H.- 21 1/2 in., W.- 9 1/2 in., D.- 4 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Top finial slightly bent to the right. A pea-size chip on the back right edge of the top. A 1 inch chip to the top right corner with the small finial lacking. Sliver of wood lacking below metal inlay on left front. Inlay slight raised in a ½ inch section on both sides of top. Dust accretion in crevices. Tarnish on dial. A fascinating piece.
