Description
DESCRIPTION: Lot of ephemera pertaining to Dr. David McCaa, of Lancaster, PA. Includes photographs, patent records, letters, photocopies, and clippings. Dr. McCaa, an Ephrata native and prominent Lancaster physician, was one of the pioneers of radio. While attempting to improve the X-ray machine, he discovered something that led him to believe that the human voice could be transmitted over a great distance without the use of wires to carry electrical impulses. He did much of his experimentation at his home in School Lane Hills, where he built two tall towers for testing. On June 15, 1914, McCaa demonstrated what was really a wireless telephone between a ship in the Atlantic and the New York Herald Tribune editorial office. MEASUREMENTS: Various. CONDITION: Some pieces in sleeve protectors. Minor toning and wear as expected with age and use.
