One electronically tested 14KT white gold ladies cast blue topaz and sapphire ring with a bright polish finish. The ring features a series of three stacked blue topaz and sapphire ribbons, completed by a two and one-half millimeter wide band. Identified with markings of '14K'. Condition is good. Containing: Three prong set square cushion mixed cut natural blue topazes, measuring 6.00 x 6.00 x 4.00mm, approximate total weight of 3.65ct., clarity is eye clean, type I, medium, very slightly grayish, very slightly greenish blue color, (GIA vslgB 5/3), cut is good. A deposit of a thin layer has been applied to the topaz to produce the intense color effect. The process utilizes a very high temperature treatment, diffusion of ions into the topaz, plus in some cases neutron bombardment has been used to create the color center. Diffusion processes causes the added ions to become part of the crystal surface with no distinct boundary. Do not put a gem treated in this manner into an ultrasonic cleaner.
