A selection of spoons to include a set of four George IV Irish silver serving spoons of Fiddle pattern, each with crested terminal and rat-tail, hallmarked Christopher Eades and Matthew West, Dublin 1824, length measures 9 1/2 inches (23.5 cm). Together with a late Victorian pair of silver sugar tongs with wrythen stems and bright-cut decoration, hallmarked James Deakin & Sons, Sheffield 1893, a modern pair of silver handled grape scissors, the cast loop handles with fruiting vines and bows, Birmingham 1990, a souvenir spoon stamped 925, etc. Gross weighable silver 11.09 ozt (344.8 grams).
Condition
In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The crest on the serving spoons depicts a unicorn upon a crown, minor bumps to the bowls with some heavier tarnishing to the interior and edges, some minor loss of definition to the rat-tails. The blades of the scissors are base metal, the silver handles further marked 'Sterling Made in England'. The souvenir spoon has a cross motif terminal, stamped 925 alongside Foreign import marks and a possible mis-struck maker's mark to the reverse of the stem. Hallmarks slightly rubbed but legible.
