Description
A set of four Victorian silver mounted candlesticks, each raised on four square bases with personal engravings within gadrooned border and embellished with alternating urns and foliate scrolls, rising to the cylindrical columns with leaf mounted capitals. Hallmarked Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), London 1891 and 1892. Height measuring 7 1/4 inches (18.5 cm).
Condition
The candlesticks displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The decoration has lost definition and worn through to holes specifically on the urn decoration to the base and details on the columns. Covering missing to the undersides of the bases. A few dents to the capitals and nozzles. Detachable nozzles with corresponding hallmarks. Hallmarks a little rubbed but clear and legible, maker's marks somewhat worn.The engravings to the base read;'FRANCISCUS CUNNINGHAM WOODS MA B MUS' 'DD AMICI XIV SENIORES E COLL EXON' 'MDCCCXCV'.
