This is the first monograph on Vanderpant, one of the few Canadian pictorialists to achieve international fame. It includes a remembrance by the son of a painter friend of the photographer's and Hill's biographical essay. Vanderpant's pictures from the 1920s were largely soft-focus urban scenes, while in the thirties he added still lifes and took a more modernist approach. John Vanderpant (1884 -1939) was born in the Netherlands, moved to Canada in 1911, and from the mid-1920s was prominent in the Vancouver art scene, operating a studio and making creative photographs until his death. Bilingual text in French and English. Spine lightly rubbed.
