曾国藩（1811－ 1872)，初名子城，谱名传豫，字伯涵，号涤生，清朝湖南长沙府湘乡白杨坪人，中国近代政治家、军事家、理学家、文学家，与胡林翼并称曾胡。曾国藩与李鸿章、左宗棠、张之洞并称“晚清四大名臣”，官至武英殿大学士、两江总督，同治年间封一等毅勇侯，又授世袭罔替，谥文正。曾国藩一生奉行程朱理学，但亦多所汲取宋明儒学其他支派的思想。宋明理学实际上分为气学、理学和心学三个学术派别。曾国藩还以气学在生成论方面的资源来弥补理学之局限，谓“张子之《正蒙》，醇厚正大，邈焉寡儔”。依著气学的思路，曾国藩认为，天地万物均因稟气而生，气是构成天地万物的最终基元。在稟气而生这个意义上，天 地万物是“同体”的。
