VINTAGE SIGNED TAXCO STERLING SILVER NECKLACE: c. 1955, Felipe Martinez, Taxco, Mexico. Artistic necklace with four freeform panels each inlaid with crushed turquoise and attached with heavy, circular jump rings are attached to alternating, hand-made, tubular beads, hook and eye closure, 16.75”l.
Signed MEXICO MARI’ with Eagle 3. Weight: 28.57g, 18.40dwt.
In addition to being a silversmith, Felipe Martinez was a jeweler in Taxco, Mexico. In the 1950s he had his own shop which was aptly named Piedra y Plata (“Stone and Silver”). Eventually he became a full-time sculptor, consequently, examples of his jewelry pieces are rare and sought after. Ref.
