Brian Cattelle's most current project is BARE USA, a nationwide photography endeavor that delves into studies of natural beauty in contrast with man-made decay. This contrast is explored through photographing nude models in abandoned places across the United States. His plan is to photograph in all 50 states and publish a book of the final collection. Perhaps one of BARE USA's models, Lace Nguyen, describes the project best, on the geminijunemoon blog:“Without a touch of sensationalism, the pose in Brian's photos is never flashy or provocative; instead, the nude figure becomes one with the space she inhabits. The effect is powerful, not just because of the eroticism, but also because her nakedness seems to emphasize excruciating human vulnerability. The contrast between the texture of dead, abandoned industrial spaces and the soft, quiet vivacity of the bare human body could be described as both mentally agonizing and hauntingly romantic. ” Brian explains it this way: "Most importantly," he says, "I wanted to create something beautiful by looking in the most unexpected of places… For me it's not just about capturing these images of solitude and decay. It's about rejuvenating some of their past glory by injecting natural beauty. So how exactly am I doing this? By finding adventurous models crazy enough to follow me into these dark and forgotten structures, letting me take nude photos of them in the chaos and destruction. The thing is, in my images you don't always see the nude model immediately, often times she's hidden deep beneath the shadows and the damage. Once you look, once you really look into the heart of my work, you'll see the women reveal themselves, and you'll watch as the images bring these lost places back to life…” Brian's life has revolved around photography since his early teens. He developed his first black and white photo in his high school dark room, and used fully equipped darkrooms throughout high school and college. Previous work experience includes: fine art photography, real estate photography, director of internet marketing, senior web designer, and motion graphic designer. He received in B. A. in New Media, from the University of Maine and makes his home now in Delray Beach, Florida. Brian has received awards and honors from: People's Choice Awards, Capture the Unknown photo contest, and the International Fine Art Photography Competition.
