Item Details
Description
This mechanical fan with a clock-work motor and no key was first patented in 1885 by William R. Fowler of Philadelphia. The wind-up mechanism is at the top of the base where the spindle connected to the fan blades is inserted. The base is decoratively cast iron with a red tint to it. The oval shaped fan blades are wire-rimmed and the fabric may be a replacement due to being somewhat crudely sewn. The blades rotate slowly and, when fully extended, measure 50" across. 32-1/4"T. x 11"W. x 5-1/2"D.
