Details: Antique Civil War Era authentic 1858 pattern smooth-sided military canteen.

This 1858 smooth-sided canteen design was popular during the U.S. Civil War. Three sling loops soldered to the canteen, and a pewter spout. Includes white linen shoulder strap (presumably not the original issued strap). There is no stopper, or stopper chain. One shoulder strap loop has a hole for the stopper chain, consistent with New York Quartermaster Depot issued canteens.

Measures approx. 7 3/4" in diameter. Stamped tinned iron construction consisting of two halves joined together with a seam.

This lot is from the estate of a very well-known and well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York.
