Description
The panels cut from a dragon robe, each depicting a dragon chasing the flaming pearl amongst auspicious objects and cloud scrolls above foaming waves. Each section is mounted on a dark blue felt stretcher.
Catalogue note: A robe of similar fabric is Published in R. Jacobsen, Imperial Silks - Ch'ing Dynasty Textiles in the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Pl. 38 Acc.no. 42.8.6. Two complete yellow-ground brocade chuba dating to the 18th century were sold at Christie's New York, 17 September 2008, lot 174, and 17-18 March 2016, lot 1382. An uncut robe was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 11 November 2016, lot 733.
Condition: stains and a few pulls.
