Full page typed letter dated Jan 18th -'57 from Ruth Plumy Thompson on The Office of The Royal Historian of Oz letterhead, with occasional corrections in Thompson's hand. A warm and chatty letter from the then former writer of the Oz stories (Thompson was the writer of the series directly after L. Frank Baum). In the letter she fondly remembers her time with the Oz books, and claims they are still close to her heart. She shares some thoughts on writers and their creations: "I do not think writers bother too much about books after they are written. Some are bound to be better than others, owing mostly to the conditions under which they are written. There are good times and bad times in all lives and often the trying times are reflected in the stories." She goes on to state "Oz is as near to me now as ever owing to the many letters I still receive...even though I am not writing the new adventures (perhaps it would be better if I were?)" . The letter is signed by Thompson in pen at the bottom.
