Nine gelatin silver photographs, tipped to mounts with are signed by Anne Brigman and dated '24 in the lower left margins. Images approx. 25x20 cm (9¾x7¾") tipped to larger mounts.

Excellent series of pictorial-style portraits of James Blanding Sloan (1886-1975), American etcher, printmaker, theatrical designer, educator, painter, and puppeteer. The photographer, Anne Wardrope (Nott) Brigman (1869-1950), was one of the original members of the Photo-Secession movement in the United States, and was active in the bohemian community in the San Francisco Bay Area, befriending Jack London, George Sterling, Charles Keeler and others. In the 1920's she began to study etching in Carmel under James Blanding Sloan and exhibited her prints "of fine design and feeling" in April 1925 with other Sloan students at the League of Fine Arts in Berkeley and at the City of Paris Galleries in San Francisco. She also, as can be seen, subjected the photogenic Sloan to her own art. Also included is a photograph of choreographer LeRoy Prinz, show business entrepreneur Sid Grauman, and three puppets designed by Blanding Sloan (Sugar Pine in blackface, May [sic] West, and Groucho Marx); four newsclippings regarding Sloan; a photograph of Sloan from the same sitting as the others, but smaller size and unsigned, with ink notes on the back crediting Bridgman and noting "Blanding Sloan, whose exhibition of etchings is being shown at S.F. Gumps March 9 to 21st"; a printed flyer for the exhibit of etchings by "Associates of Blanding Sloan" mentioned above , with Anne Brigman listed; etc.
