Jan Frans van Bredael (Flemish, 1686-1750) was a painter of landscapes, village scenes and battles. He normally worked on a small scale, painting on panels, copper or wood. He was a member of an artistic family from Antwerp. He began his career working for a dealer in Dutch art, copying the work of Philips Wouverman (1619-1668) and Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568-1625). He is known to have worked in England, and between 1719 and 1725 was working in Paris. He returned to Antwerp where he became a member of the Guild of St. Luke.
