A poster written by Y. Meshorer, a Rabbi in the Yemenite yeshiva "Or HaMizrach", with a first hand description of the religious persecution taking place against the mitzva observant residents of the Yemenite immigrant camps in the 1940's. 
He writes: "The counselors of the Yemenite immigrants...coarsely step on all of the nation's holy matters and mock anything religious...the counselor does not allow them to pray Shacharit...we, the Yemenites who are faithful to the revelation at Sinai, would be better returning to Yemen than living lives empty of all Torah and Mitzvot here...the cook mixes meat and milk utensils...the counselor mocks prayer and carries out general anti-religious propaganda. He shaved off their sidelocks with a razor saying: In the Land of Israel you must be clean like soldiers, it is not appropriate to grow sidelocks like in exile...we have no need for customs taken from the Diaspora...".
