Antique Japanese Woodblock of Pavillion BY HIROSHI YOSHIDA. Determined by the penciled signature and the red seal. Yoshida (1876-1950) is one of the most famous of 20th-century Japanese printmakers in the shin-hanga style – an early 20th-century revitalization movement of the traditional ukiyo-e styles of the 17-19th centuries – most of your typical Japanese auction prints are from the ukiyo-e era, which depicted scenes of rural peasant life, as well as the urban ‘floating world’ of geishas and pleasure houses.
