Description
Very rare 1920's large KKK silk embroider banner with yellow backdrop which reads " John B. Gordon Klan No.24" above embroidered image of a robed white knight on horse with a flaming cross, below it reads "Non Silba Sed Anthar" a classic motto of the Second Ku Klux Klan, below the motto reads " KKK" above the words "Realm of Florida". Lettering is done in a dark grey cross-stitching pattern and appears to be embroidered with great detail and intricacy. Top of banner bears a heavy silver wire-bullion tassels hanging from a tapered blue silk border which has 6 attached blue-silk loops for hanging on a rod, the bottom end of banner bears also bears a heavier silver wire-bullion tassels, with two large woven tassels. All parts embroidered or sewn onto the banner appear to be done so with great craftsmanship & detail with the same cross-stitching pattern as the lettering particularly impressive is the level of intricacy & craftsmanship on the robed white knight in the center of banner with flaming cross in hand and complete costume (including emblem) whose horse is also robed, all appears to be done with attention too detail. Measuring 35'' wide by 62'' long and tapered on both ends top & bottom. This banner is extremely scarce and is without a doubt one of a kind, a true piece of Floridian history. The condition of the banner is exceptional for the age of the item, with the exception of some negligible mothing consistent with age of item, this item appears to have been stored properly and with care.
