Antique Chinese Ming or Qing Sang de Boeuf Ox Blood Oxblood Flambe Glaze Water Buffalo Figure Statue Sculpture on a Custom Carved Reticulated Hardwood Plinth Base

19th century or earlier, base probably later but still the better part of a century old.

3 inches high x 7.5 inches long x 3 inches across, 4.5 inches high including base. Two old labels to the interior, the first an old Hill Collection label remnant identifying the work as a(n) ..ng Dynasty Water Buffalo and the second a newer but still vintage label probably from the family inventory after the the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Hill listing the object as a purple cow.

Provenance: Tampa Bay, Florida sale of estate items advertised as from the Hill family Asian decorative arts collection formed beginning in the 1940s by a wealthy Texas socialite and her world traveler husband, their heirs since retired to Florida’s Gulf Coast and the collection dispersed by a local firm. Please see a high relief Japanese meiji bronze koi bowl or hibachi, Lot 64, from the same collection as well as other Chinese antiques from a Palm Beach area collection elsewhere in this sale.

Condition: Broken estate discovery condition with absent or partially absent horns and ears - otherwise generally quite nice with some minor glaze wear and a few scattered edge flecks.

Buyers of goods not liable for sales tax due to items being shipped out of county or state may be liable for use tax in their receiving county and/or state, that, as with international duties, are the sole responsibility of the buyer.

All buyers who have not in the absence of specific arrangements paid for both their purchases within 5 days or paid for their outside shipping within 5 days of the item being picked up by or dropped off at an outside shipper are subject to a combined uninsured storage fee of $10 + 2% of the hammer price per item per month in addition to any (re)pick-up fees (all fees as a lien where applicable) with purchase requirements and disposition of items per Terms & Conditions remaining in effect.
