Color woodblock triptych, each panel approximately 36x24 cm (14¼x9¼"), together 36x71 cm (14¼x28"). Panels joined and tipped to modern matting.
Originally born Takenouchi Hidehisa, the artist used multiple g? (artist names) during his career including Baid? H?sai, Baid? Kunimasa, K?ch?r?, Kunimasa IV, Kunisada III and Toyokuni V. Early in his career he used the g? Kunimasa IV and Baid? H?sai. In 1889 he succeeded as head of the Utagawa line and took the g? Kunisada III. Later in his career he claimed the title Toyokuni IV, but that go was already taken (a fact that he refused to recognize), so he is referred to as Toyokuni V. Featuring the actors Bando Mitsugoro at right, Nakamura [first name undecipherable] at center, and [?] ____nosuke at left.
