This is a fair but not distinctive stated first edition of Carl Becker's Freedom and Responsibility in the American Way of Life (122 numbered pages, plus index). The front end page has a notation that states this is from the library of Clare Booth Luce (dated Nov 3rd, 1946). I believe this is Clare Booth Luce's signature. The capital B is unusual, but there are instances of her having written it that way. The other letters are typical of her signatures. Separately, there is a cut-off piece of light blue paper, the type of paper Helen Keller used as stationery, with the typed closing "Trustingly and cordially yours", followed by a Helen Keller signature. A pencil note on the side states "This is Miss Keller's autograph". The signature is guaranteed to be a genuine Helen Keller autograph.

The blue cover is scuffed, with the spine lettering faded. It is securely attached to the inside, which is in good overall condition, with no tears and with tight binding, but with a number of corner creases and a few spreads that are tanned from articles having been left in those spreads.
