Twenty-Nine (29) Tennessee Newsprints/Illustrations, inc. Harper's Weekly. 1st-23rd items: Twenty-three newsprint pages illustrated with wood cut engravings, some with later hand coloring, from "Harper's Weekly", ranging in date from March 8, 1862 to July 3, 1897. Newsprint pages, with some duplications, depicting scenes related to Tennessee including eight pages from Harper's Pictorial of the Civil War, one full page spread titled "A Marble Quarry near Knoxville, Tennessee", drawn by Charles Graham and John Durkin, May 7, 1887, one double page spread from "The New South", supplement to Harper’s Weekly, featuring "A Deer Hunt on Belle Mead Farm, Near Nashville, Tennessee", drawn by Thure de Thulstrup, July 30, 1887, one douple page spread titled "Views in Memphis, Tennessee", drawn by Charles Graham, August 27, 1887, and one page documenting President Grover Cleveland’s Goodwill Tour of 1887, and two pages with images from the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition in 1897. Text pages en verso. Two full pages, one partial page mounted to mattes. Sheets approximately - 16 1/4" x 11 1/2" W. Mattes - 10" H x 12" W x 12 1/4" H x 17 1/4" W. 24th-27th items: Four "Tennessee" text pages with statistics and woodcut engravings, from "Cram's Universal Atlas" by George F. Cram, circa 1884-1900. Two pages include text pages for "Texas" and "South Dakota", en verso. Sheets approximately - 14 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W. 28th item: "Cumberland Gap" steel plate engraving with hand coloring by Samuel V. Hunt, after Harry Fenn, published by Daniel Appleton and Company, New York, circa 1972. From "Picturesque America" by William Cullen Bryant. Image - 5 1/4" H x 7 7/8" W. Sheet - 8 3/4" H x 12 1/4" W. 29th item: Newsprint page illustrated with wood cut engravings, from "Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion", 1857. The uncolored engravings include "The State Capitol, at Nashville, Tennessee" and "A Prayer Wheel at Cashmere, India," with full text page. Text page, en verso. 15" H x 10 5 /8" W. All items American, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: Collection of Charles and Ann Wells, Nashville, Tennessee.
