Description
JOSH WHITE
(1914 – 1969) American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and civil rights activist. His repertoire included urban blues, jazz, traditional folk songs, and political protest songs. White became the closest black friend and confidant of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, White's anti-segregationist stance presented in many of his recordings and in his speeches were subsequently used by McCarthyites as a pretext for labeling him a communist to slander and harass him. Great signed photo, 8" x 10" black and white, shows White singing with his guitar. Inscribed with lyrics from his song "One Meat Ball": "Oct. 23, 1952 You gets no bread With one meat ball Josh White says thanks". Very light crease in one corner, else very good.
