Description
1. Medal commemorating 15 years of the leadership of R. Elie-Aristede Astruc as Chief Rabbi of Belgium, 1880.
Obverse: portrait of Astruc, signed "Ch. [Charles] Wiener". Reverse: a wreath and the French legend "Hommage des Israelites Belges a E. A. Estruc, Grand Rabbin de Belgique de 1865 a 1880". Diameter: 50 mm.
2. Silver medal in memory of Joseph de Mose Piza, (1824-1879), German-Jewish journalist, translator, and cantor. He served as cantor in the synagogue of Hamburg, among other positions. Obverse: portrait of Piza (signed "Bergmann F.") with the legend "Dr. Joseph Piza". Reverse: coat of arms of Hamburg, beneath a compass inside two squares, (evidently the symbol of the freemasons of Hamburg), surrounded by the dates and places of Piza's birth and death. Diameter: 42 mm.
3. Medal commemorating 60 years of the leadership of R. Abraham Alexander Wolff (1801-1891), as Chief Rabbi of Denmark. [Denmark], 1888. Obverse: Portrait of R. Wolff, signed "F. Schmahlfeld". Reverse: Hebrew legend - "The lips of the priest preserve wisdom…" (Malachi 2:7), and "8. October 1828 / 8 October 1888"; surrounded by a wreath. Signed: "V. Christensen". Diameter: 37 mm.
