Lowell Nesbitt was an American painter, printmaker, and sculptor, who lived from 1933-1993. He had is first solo museum exhibition in 1958, but it was a later exhibition, in 1964 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Museum) in Washington, D.C. that he received greater recognition. Nesbitt was the first highly recognized artist to paint x-ray figures, and is also credited for being the first artist to use computer parts as subject matter for his artwork. He purchased a massive, 12500 square foot New York studio in 1976, formerly the site of a police stable. Following his death the "Old Stable" was purchased by fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, who used it as her primary design studio and inner city living space.
