Item Details
Description
This lot consists of the volume "Denmark Vindicated: Being an Answer to a late Treatise Called, an Account of Denmark, as it Was in the Year 1692. Sent from a Gentleman in the Country, to his Friend in London," attributed to Jodocus Crull (London: Printed for Tho. Newborough, 1694).

This work appears to be a rebuttal, in the form of a letter, of a "nameless author, who, (as much as in him lays) has endeavoured to misrepresent the State of your R. H.'s native country, and the most antient Rights of your Royal Family in Denmark" (from the dedication).

Jodocus Crull (1660-1713) was a late 17th-century and early 18th-century "miscellaneous writer" on historical subjects, with political and sociological insights. Though his life remains somewhat of a mystery, his works are still consulted by academic and popular history writers today (Wikipedia).

This volume is bound in full leather, with blind-stamped ornamentation to the covers, five raised bands, and a gilt emblem on the foot of the spine. The text is adorned with occasional engraved headpieces and initials.
