Description
Grover Cleveland (1837- 1908) 22nd and 24th President. 2 ¾” x 7” guest ribbon for a Tammany Society or Columbian Order event, New York, July 4, 1895, signed as President. The ribbon is affixed to a 4 ¾” x 7 ½” invitation, New York, June 3, 1895, issued to Thomas A. E. Weadock for the celebration of the “One Hundred and Nineteenth Anniversary of American Independence” being held at Tammany Hall. Mounted to a larger sheet. Cleveland was serving his second term as President in July 1895, having been elected in 1892 over Benjamin Harrison. The Tammany Hall Democrats adhered to the national ticket, allowing a united Democratic party to carry New York.
