A good manuscript, ca. War of 1812, apprenticeship (Indenture) contract between Annias Nelson and Isaac Alderman, Pittgrove, Aug. 7, 1812, reading, in part: "…Annius Nelson son of Annias Nelson…hath bound himself apprentice Isaac Alderman of the same place to serve him as an apprentice the full firm of four years, four months &…obey at Candy dice or another unlawful game he shall not play. He shall do no damage to his so master nor cause it to be done by others without giving his so master notice. He shall not commit fornication nor contract matrimony…in all things behave himself…becomingly a fateful apprentice…to be instructed in the art of shoemaking…and shall procure for so apprentice sufficient meet, drink and apparel, washing and lodging.
