Circle of Alexandre Bigot (French, 1862-1927) & Siegfried Bing (French/German, 1838-1905). Reminiscent of the works sold at Maison de l'Art Nouveau in Paris, an Art Nouveau or Jugendstil flambe glazed ceramic inkwell with mixed metal overlay of organic leaf form with raised iris blossom at top as the hinged inkwell lid and applied silver overlay along right edge in the form of cascading floral buds, overall with blue/green to sanguine flambe glaze. Underside with indistinguishable signature over unknown seal mark. Approximate height 3.75", width 6.125", depth 8". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Susan E. Yeomans of S. Battery, Charleston, South Carolina (a descendant of former Governor of South Carolina Ibra C. Blackwood and his wife, Margaret Hodges; former President of the United States of America, Grover Cleveland; and former Governor of South Carolina, Carroll Ashmore Campbell Jr.).

Base of interior porcelain inkwell broken off and lacking (see image #7). Glue residue protruding under applied metal decoration on side (see image #8). Oxidation and pitting with some rusting and loss of finish to metal (see image #6 and #8). Underside of lid with raised dot of glue to prevent lid from striking or resting on mouth of inkwell (see image 6).
