Description
Continental, likely German, fourth quarter 19th century. silverplated mounted glass claret jug or ewer, the pale amber colored glass intaglio cut with flowering urn, scrolling foliage, dolphins and pheasants; the mounts decorated with masks, grapes, foliage, strapwork and grotesques with griffin style handle. Apparently the only marks found under the griffin stamped "30". Approximate height 12.5". Provenance: From the Estate of Ms. Caroline F. Oglesby of Swainsboro, Georgia. Note: The style of this jug is often named after the sculptor and silversmith Benvenuto Cellini.
