Description
American, first quarter 20th century. A mahogany Federal style sideboard, having a serpentine form, with an upper drawer with brass bail handles over a recessed two-door cabinet, flanked on either side by a single-door cabinet, all with string inlay, the cabinets with marquetry inlaid fans, on six squared and tapering legs, with string and marquetry inlaid bellflower drops. Approximate height 42", width 71.425", depth 22.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Elizabeth H. Benner. Note: According to a small label to the reverse, the piece was fashioned of old, re-purposed mahogany as a copy of a sideboard located at George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. While the form is similar, the inlaid decoration is different.
