View of a River, 1855, signed lower right "Wash Peale, 1855", watercolor on paper, 7-3/4 x 9-1/4 in.; gilt wood frame,. Notes: Little is known about Washington Peale and works rarely appear in the market. He was the son of James Peale, Jr. and the great nephew of Charles Willson Peale. He worked for the army as a photographer during the Civil War and eventually partnered with another photographer by the name of Philip Haas.
