The collection encompasses stoneware, paintings, porcelain, and bronzes spanning a period of 15 Centuries and 3 Dynasties. Mr. Tishler started acquiring pieces in 1974 during a visit to Korea. It was during this trip that he had met the much celebrated ceramicist, Shin Sang Ho. All of the ceramic pieces by the artist were exported to America directly from his kiln site in Korea. Other works were acquired from private collectors in Korea, Sotheby’s New York, and a Southeast Asian Ambassador who had returned to the United States in the early 1950’s, and whose private collection was offered through Litchfield County Auctions. In 1982 the Brooklyn Museum exhibited highlights on loan from the Tishler Collection. Most of the pieces in the Collection have been authenticated by Samuel S. T. Chen, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor Emeritus.
