Description
Rare Hand Painted Beijing Enamel on Copper Bowl with Cover. Shown with a decorative motif of lotus flowers in profile among scrolling arabesques.Design articulated on turquoise blue ground and accented in colors of red, blue, green and gold enamels. Interior of the Vessel and the matching cover are of rare pink enamel color. Cover also has unusual circular opening in center perhaps for placing flowers in the bowl or other display function.
The choice of the design of this piece is known as "fanggu" in homage to similarly decorated Chinese art vessels in Porcelain and Cloisonne.The Kangxi Emperor (4 May 1654 – 20 December 1722) was the fourth emperor of the Qing dynasty. Enamels and the resultant decorative art were rare during the Kangxi Era as enamels were imported and therefore precious. The exuberant use of enamels in a variety of colors on this piece as well as the beautiful and masterfully painted design demonstrate its rarity and value.Remnants of an old gallery inventory label on inside of cover. "Kangxi" marking on base.
