Rare and Important Cream Wax Portrait Relief of General George Washington, Signed Patience Wright. Patience Lovell Wright (1725–1786) was the first recognized American-born sculptor. She chiefly created wax figures of people. She loved to write poetry and was also a painter. Profile bust of Washington in a military uniform. Mounted on a period gilt molded frame and set in a later shadow-box frame. Image size of bust measures 6" x 4-1/2", outer frame measures 15-1/4" x 13-1/4" overall. Condition: Very good with minor wear.
