1865-Dated Civil War Lincoln Assassination Period, Portrait Bust of President Abraham Lincoln upon an Integral Pedestal, measuring about 18” tall x 12” wide, in Chalk, Signed & Dated under the bust, “D. Morgan, Sculptor. - 1865.” Choice Very Fine.
Original American Sculpture Bust Artwork is dated 1865. It was produced with great skill and in handsome detail, worked in chalk, measuring about 18” tall x 12” wide. Written under and into its rear is “D. Morgan, Sculptor. - 1865” plus the words “Patent Pending”. This large impressive Bust shows a pensive President Abraham Lincoln with toga draped about his shoulders, upon a pedestal about 3.5” high for its display, all being sculpted from one piece, with the central cavity hollow. This Bust weight is about 10 pounds with minor nicks on his brows and the very tip of his nose (simple to smooth). Overall, there is slight actual wear as this decorative Bust of Abraham Lincoln as it was meant for display. The first of this historic memorial design and type we have offered, and certainly of museum quality.
