“I shall change the systems of men and government and we shall have a Righteous Government upon the earth.”
FATHER DIVINE (c. 1876–1965) aka: Reverend M. J. Divine. African American spiritual leader from about 1907 until his death. His full self-given name was Reverend Major Jealous Divine, and he was also known as "the Messenger" early in his life. He founded the International Peace Mission movement, formulated its doctrine, and oversaw its growth from a small and predominantly black congregation into a multiracial and international church.
April 20, 1944-Dated Typed Letter Signed “Rev. M.J. Divine,” 2 pages, measuring 8.5” x 11”, on letterhead from “Circle Mission, Inc. Church,” in Bronx, NY, Choice Very Fine. Written to Miss Holy Quietness, Divine pens, in part:

“... None need falter and none need fear so long as they live in the Righteousness of the law. This is the way for all humanity to follow, and it has long been established upon the earth. It is for this cause the I AM awakening the children of men with the true concept and recognition of the Life of Christ and His Righteousness, “for except a man be born again,” said Jesus, he shall in no wise enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Letter bears minor separation at folds, and comes with original transmittal envelope. Also included is a black and white printed photograph of Divine, measuring approximately 6.75” x 9”. (3 items)
