Boyle & Gamble Richmond, Virginia Civil War Sword
Item Details
Description
A Confederate Foot Officer's sword made by Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia (unmarked, but researched by appraiser to identify thusly) and carried by a Richmond, Virginia officer. Does not include scabbard and has dings to the blade, but has etched designs and the initials C.S. to one side and the C.S. emblem on the hand guard. There may be more information but the blade is too tarnished to read it. The sword measures 37-1/4" long, including the handle. The blade measures 32". All measurements are approximate. Provenance: The sword has been passed down through a prominent and early Richmond family able to trace their roots to the 18th C in Richmond, & was used by James H. Grant, I., who was born in 1849 and died September 18, 1883.
