Description
Terracotta with painting, Nazca, Peru. ca. 4th to 6th cent.
Around the exterior of this red cup with outwardly curved walls and a wide mouth are two painted rows composed of over thirty trophies’ heads. The blackish-gray, red or yellow heads are mostly ordered in groups of three according to their color. Signs of aging, but well and completely preserved. Nazca is located south of Lima, Peru.

Provenance: Once part of the collection of Dr. Gottfried Eysank of Marienfels, Bad Schönau in Lower Austria, acquired before 1970.
