Original drawing by the great American illustrator, Harrison Fisher
This superb drawing of a handsome young woman swinging a golf club is undoubtedly the title page drawing for a story in one of the many illustrated magazines Fisher drew for. Known particularly for his portrayals of beautiful women, Fisher here renders flawlessly the calm concentration of the nicely turned out young golfer, as well as her fashionable, Edwardian attire.
Harrison Fisher was one the leading lights in the "golden age of American illustration" that includes Howard Pyle, N.C.Wyeth, Charles Dana Gibson, Maxfield Parrish and others whose book and story illustrations were qualitatively much finer art than the stories were literature. He is best known for nearly twenty consecutive years of Cosmopolitan covers with their intriguing portraits of hopeful young maidens and loving couples.
