Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, post-Classic period, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A steep-walled cylindrical vessel with a matte, dark red interior, and lustrous polychrome exterior walls, the base a creamy white. The rim has wide red upper and lower registers framing the central pattern comprised of bright orange glaze with overpainted strokes of black in an "X" pattern that conjure imagery of overlapping mountain peaks. Vessels like this were used for drinking cocoa-based drinks, hugely popular with the Maya. Size: 5.05" W x 4.45" H (12.8 cm x 11.3 cm)
