One electronically tested 18KT white gold cast & assembled blue topaz and diamond ring with a bright polish finish. The Fred of Paris "Pain De Sucre" ring features a blue topaz cabochon set within a diamond bezel supported by tapering shoulders, completed by a five millimeter wide band. The ring is stamped 58 986140. Trademark is Fred of Paris. Identified with markings of "750". Condition is good. Containing: One bezel set square cabochon cut natural blue topaz, measuring 10.60 x 10.60 x 8.00mm, approximate weight of 9.30ct., type I, dark, very slightly grayish, very slightly greenish blue color, (GIA vslgB 7/3), cut is good. Transmitting light with no distortion, transparent. Graded in the setting. A deposit of a thin layer has been applied to the topaz to produce the intense color effect. The process utilizes a very high temperature treatment, diffusion of ions into the topaz, plus in some cases neutron bombardment has been used to create the color center. Diffusion processes causes the added ions to become part of the crystal surface with no distinct boundary. Do not put a gem treated in this manner into an ultrasonic cleaner.
