A pair of mid 18th century Belgian silver shaped oval sauce boats, maker's mark a script D beneath a crown (unknown), Mons 1761, with twin moulded loop handles, moulded shaped rims, the baluster bodies moulded in panels, each on short supports with corkscrew feet, engraved N.W ., now 16.5cm (6 1/2in) long, 625g (20.1 oz) (formerly double lipped) See Stuyck, R. Belgische Zilvermerken: Poincons d'argenterie belges , no. 4942 for the maker's mark. Provenance: the barons, later comtes, van den Steen de Jehay.
