A[rthur]. Conan Doyle. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. London: George Newnes, Limited, 1892. First edition, first issue, with misprint of "Violent Hunter" for "Violet Hunter." Large octavo. [iv], 317, [1, printer's imprint] pages, with intertextual illustrations by Sidney Paget throughout. Publisher's light blue cloth over boards with beveled edges, spine and front board lettered in gilt and black, front board decoratively stamped in black with illustration in its first state, lacking a name printed on the street sign, all edge gilt. Boards somewhat rubbed with occasional light soiling and small dampstains, spine somewhat darkened, cloth worn at joints and edges with some fraying at spine ends, corners bumped with boards exposed. Hinges starting with mull cloth exposed, lower corner of front free endpaper creased, occasional foxing and soiling throughout. Previous ownership signature on half-title page. Very good.
