[Edward Weston, photographer]. Merle Armitage. The Art of Edward Weston. New York: E. Weyhe, 1932. First edition, limited 550 copies, of which this is number forty-eight, and signed by the photographer; association copy, additionally inscribed by Weston to filmmaker Lewis Milestone, who directed All Quiet on the Western Front (Universal Pictures, 1930), The Front Page (United Artists, 1931) and dozens more films between 1918 and 1962. Folio (13.5 x 10.25 inches; 342 x 261 mm.). Illustrated with forty (including frontis portrait) full-page black and white reproductions of Weston's photographs. Publisher's quarter-white paper over smooth black paper-covered boards, backstrip lettered in black; black endpapers. Backstrip browned with some soiling, including a moderate black blemish on the rear board, and a couple small splashes; joints worn, with only minor paper loss, and just barely starting; light wear to spine ends; board edges worn; boards rubbed with some occurrences of heavier wear, particularly to rear board. Previous owner gift inscription in pencil to half-title page; sporadic faint marginal foxing. A very good copy with a great association. Housed in supplied slipcase, lacking the original.
