Description
Handsome Pair of Paris Porcelain Vases, fourth quarter 19th century, formerly mounted as lamps, with biscuit and gilt caryatid-molded handles, the vases decorated with carefully painted birds, flowers and butterflies trimmed in bleu celeste, on platinum grounds, with painted wood bases on the lower cylindrical portion, made to conceal electrical fittings, h. 17", w. 8-1/2", d. 4-1/4".
Condition
The neck line and shoulder on one of the caryatids on one vase have been repaired with visible traces of "gold" fixative. The other caryatid is lacking the tips of its wings, and has a small innate firing line in its hairline. On the other vase, one of the caryatids, under UV light, exhibits some professional over-glaze touch-up to its gilding. Structurally sound with the blue and platinum grounds intact (minus a few surface scuffs).
