Description
Pair of Unusual Continental Lidded Vases, ca. 1900, with a ground of applied daisies, the front decorated with a scrolled escutcheon, a profile of an 18th-century female figure, and a scroll-trimmed cabochon, with elaborate branch-form handles decorated with hydrangeas, female classical figures sitting on the tops, the domed covers comprised of scrolled shields supported by a pair of putti, marked with unidentified molded marks of a tower, flanked by rampant crowned lions, h. 19-1/4", w. 13", d. 7-3/4".
Condition
Scattered old restoration to the flowers and leaves. A few minor fresh losses. Formerly converted to lamps, with holes in the bottoms and brass finials covering the upper holes. Minor glaze losses under the covers, around the opening. One cover with the rear section reattached. Small glaze cracks around one base. The mark is a molded tower.
